Our Pressing Concerns: Tipping Points
At Slane From the Middle, we cut through the noise to discuss the urgent issues shaping our society. From fundamental constitutional challenges to the escalating climate crisis, we invite you to explore the critical conversations that demand our attention and search your soul for the future you truly desire.

The Eroding Constitution
We examine the profound question: Is our Constitution already dead? We delve into the implications of prioritizing the 2nd Amendment while negating the 1st Amendment freedoms of speech and religion. The actions of Trump Republicans blatantly ignoring the Constitution and the appointment of unqualified individuals to key Department Secretary positions are stark indicators of this troubling trend.

Wealth Inequality and The Middle Class
The rapidly growing inequality in wealth is pushing the middle class to the brink. We explore how this disparity threatens the foundational stability of our society, raising the question: Is there a way to avoid the middle class soon moving to poverty or living under rigid religious law?

Ignoring Science, Risking Futures
The disregard for scientific knowledge is a reminder of the Dark Ages, leading to the return of diseases with anti-vax propaganda, shortened life spans, and an increase in infant mortality. We also tackle the looming question: Have we passed the tipping point on climate change? Furthermore, how do we handle the ever-growing number of children being born into hellish situations while parents are not held accountable?

Weaponized Propaganda: Alternative Facts
A PERSON TRULY HAS TO WORK TO FIND THEIR TRUTH IN TODAY'S WORLD!! ONE CANNOT RELY ON ANY ONE SOURCE ANYMORE!!
I strongly believe I am not alone in feeling defeated by the continual decline in our society and culture. This space is not designed for debate but to build a network for those feeling beaten down by our current political and religious environment, where many remain quiet for fear of being shouted down by extremists. We aim to foster a community where we can share concerns and seek solutions together in A CIVIL MANNER.

Is History Repeating Itself?
Am I the only one who sees the similarities from the rise of Nazi Germany to our current situation?
Germany
Nazis
- The Nazi Party formed in the early 1920's, following the Treaty of Versailles, to end WWI.
- The Treaty of Versailles was tough and punished Germany harshly leading to growing animosity in the country.
- The Beer Hall Putsch was an unsuccessful Nazi coup attempt in November of 1923. Hitler was arrested and the Nazi party was temporarily banned.
- THE BIG LIE: As stated in Mein Kampf, Hitler believed people were more likely to believe a massive, outrageous lie than a small one, as they could not conceive of someone fabricating something so enormous. The Nazis falsely blamed Jews and democratic politicians for Germany's defeat in World War I. It was effective as the Nazis repeated it incessantly and cried “Fake News” at any dissenting information.
- Paul von Hindenburg was inaugurated as the second President of Germany in 1925, and was re-elected in 1932. The Nazi Party gained parliamentary clout in that election. At that time they refused to work with any other political parties and pressure built on Hindenberg to name Hitler, as Chancellor (acting head of the government). After refusing for some time, a political deal was reached in which Hitler became Chancellor. Once he became Chancellor, Hitler and the Nazis used existing laws to destroy the German democracy and create a dictatorship. In August of 1934, Von Hindenburgh died. Hitler proclaimed himself Fuhrer (leader) and the dictatorship was official. The Nazis developed an entire society, including their education system, to indoctrinate their hate and vile, leading to WWII.
- The Gestapo was formed as a masked force, without judicial review and free of any previous limits of violence or guidelines.
- As tide of WWII turned, Hitler blamed everyone but himself.

United States
Christian Nationalists
- Christian Nationalists were courted to the Republican Party in the 1964 elections.
- Christian Nationalism simmered in the background, gaining steam in the 1990's, then burst into power following a contentious 2000 Presidential election and 9/11.
- The January 6th insurrection was an unsuccessful coup by Trump followers. While many attackers were jailed, nothing was done to Trump, nor the Republican Party.
- THE BIG LIE: By 2020, Fox News had become the top rated News Network. They helped Trump complain he hadn't won the 2020 Presidential election. Despite the work of many such as Mike, The Pillow Guy, and most Republicans there was no credible evidence and Fox News ended up paying the largest defamation penalty in history, $787,500,000 to Dominion Voting Systems for knowingly broadcasting false claims that Dominion had rigged the election. Fox acknowledged the court's rulings that certain claims about Dominion were false, while not admitting to knowing they were spreading falsehoods. Trump has never been punished for continuing the Big Lie and many people still follow his lead.
- The Republicans had the majority in our legislature,in 2020, and used their majority to use existing laws to weaken/destroy our democracy. In 2024, the Democrats democratically acknowledged defeat in the Presidential election and the Republicans now have control of all branches of government. Within 5 months Trump and Republicans destroyed all the international relationships of our lifetime and are using their power to create a dictatorial theocracy. Trump is now threatening to take control of election.
- ICE was formed as a masked force without judicial review and free of any previous limits of violence or guidelines.
- We've seen how Trump acts when he doesn't get his way!!

If these concerns resonate with you, or if you share any or all of our worries, email us to help develop a network of those struggling with our current world. While I'm from rural SE Kansas, I would love to grow our group to share issues throughout our nation. We hope to eventually allow chats, but want to first create a safe place for those silenced, and don't want to constantly battle trolls and bots. I also hope to interview people in various positions in future podcasts who can add more knowledge on the issues we're discussing.
